Have you ever wished you could do, be or live differently – like someone or something else?
Or do you wish you had a better body or curly or straight hair? A better job or a better life?
Why do we want something else?
What would it be like if you just went after your dream or your passion rather than just dreaming about it?!
Ever heard “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side” as my father use to say. You have a good job, be happy with it and like what you chose. He was a wise man for what he learned and what he knew.
This is how the saying actually goes.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. People are never satisfied with their own situation; they always think others have it better. But why is that?
Really this refers to the way we tend to look at other people’s lives and other things in life that we don’t believe we can do, get, reach or deserve.
Most people look at a neighbors lawn and see it as looking better, healthier and overall greener then their own when in reality they’re just ignoring anything negative about it and downplaying everything positive about their own.
Or maybe you thought about some of your rich friends and say to yourself “They’re so lucky, to go to a great college, have money and they’re so smart and will probably accomplish more by the time they’re 30 than I will in my entire life.”
Or on the other side of the coin…
Have you ever said or heard things like this?
I’ve always envied you and your simple life. People expect so much out of me. I’ve never been able to have a life because of studying and other school projects. If I get less then an A, people freak out like I got an F. I may accomplish that much, but with all the pressure on me. In so many ways, I wish I could just be a regular person with normal expectations and a normal life.
What is normal? By whose standards or beliefs? Society teaches us how our life should be compared to the perfect person. Why do we put such high expectations on ourselves?
Why do or did we buy into that stereotypical image as normal? What if that is all wrong? What if it doesn’t have to be right or wrong? What if we could just be natural?
Why do we think someone has it easier than we do? That they haven’t been through what we’ve been through.
The reason I decided to pick this subject is because watching my parents go through what they went through I realized I wanted to learn to choose something for me first. Instead of choosing to put a company or corporation first before anyone, even ourselves. Why is it that we always work so hard to make others rich?
How many of you have heard “money doesn’t grow on trees”. Or “Who do you think I am, Rockfeller?” FYI… John D. Rockefeller was the first American billionaire.
Well, that’s what I grew up hearing my whole childhood. My dad used to say that, and had many more lines like that embedded in his DNA and what he repeatedly ingrained into all four of us children. He was also a huge Kennedy fan of course, as he was from Massachusetts so he and my mom named all of their children after the Kennedy family. My oldest brother is Robert F and I was named after Caroline Kennedy. I think he thought if he named us after famous rich people we would all become rich some day. He was hopeful, but in fact his belief system kept him from succeeding in what he was wishing and dreaming he had. I now know had he learned a way to develop a more positive mind set he would have been able to believe that he deserved something greater.
In fact, what happened was my parents worked at their jobs and worked very hard their whole lives wishing they had something greater. They ended up living paycheck to paycheck. Their dreams were to retire someday and travel and do what they want when they want. Well unfortunately it didn’t ever happen that way. Why?
Their mind set!
They kept thinking “when we get the money, or when we have the time we can do what we want”. They ended up working harder and spending more and more time hoping to make more money.
Then it happened. They got more time. Why? Because they asked for it, not knowing it would show up the way it did.
They both got sick and were forced to retire so they ended up spending their money on medication and other healthcare not covered by insurance. Not exactly the retirement they dreamed of, as they died a few years later. They never were able to live their dreams.
I now know, had they learned a different positive mind set and cleared the negative energy and programming they would have been able to believe that they deserved and could achieve something greater.
Many years ago I started to see what was happening to them, but not knowing how to fix or to help them. I decided to choose something different for myself. I learned to go and have fun doing the things I’ve always dreamed of.
My motto became “Life is short so why not live it to the fullest”. My husband and I had and did everything we wanted. We found our love together as soul mates. So content and so happy but something was still missing. I learned a huge lesson about, Ego. As Dr. Wayne Dyer said “EGO is Edging God Out”. I didn’t truly understand what that meant. Today I absolutely know and have lived what that means.
I realized we both were so caught up in all the stuff and working to get more we lost ourselves and the connection to Source – that higher power, “God” is what I believe. I had to learn how to ask and I then started to receive and be more aware of who and what I was here to be and do on this planet. I found my passion, my calling. Could it be that my drive was “I’m not going to be like my parents”? Maybe in the beginning I did, but now I know I am just choosing something different for me. I now realize that my parents did the best they could with what they learned and what they were taught.
I decided to choose to learn how to eliminate the negative self talk that was programed in me and find a way to deprogram my mindset.
